Student Librarians

The Student librarian program was introduced in 2019 and open to year 8 students.

Student librarians provide valuable input into library development, and raise the profile of the library among their peers. Their involvement:

  • Gives other library users a positive leadership role model.

  • Provides the student body with ownership of the library via involvement in decision making for resources, programs and activities.

  • Extends students’ library skills.

  • Teaches students to work as part of a team.

  • Helps the library run more smoothly.

  • Compliments the work of library staff and teachers.

Student librarians are volunteers selected by the teacher with library responsibility and/or other library staff. They become part of library staff and contribute to the effective running of the library. Getting them on board is treated with appropriate gravity and involves a competitive and fair recruitment process.

Once selected, student librarians undergo a training process through training modules focussed on work skills development to assessed set criteria. There are three training levels to be attained resulting in the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

Meet our Student Librarians

Adam

Student Librarian

I love reading and libraries because they're a quiet place and a great way to learn. As a student librarian I've been working on a brand new 'On This Day' display, showing famous events that have occurred on this day.

I will be around to borrow, re-new and return your books. I also run a new club (Gacha club). I love reading books about fantasy, adventure and crime. I can tell you what is going on in the library, what books are new or I can recommend a new read. I am looking forward to meeting and greeting you all.
